Sometimes a girl just needs her mom.

I was talking to a new co-worker in the kitchen today and she was worried because this is her first job since her daughter was born 8 years ago and her daughter is having some separation anxiety being at day care and not at home with mom.

I may be an adult with her own home, a full time job, and bills to pay but I know how she feels.

My mother has been in Florida taking care of my grandparents for weeks and she will be their till the 30th of this month. Yesterday she called to catch up and when she hung up I burst into tears. I had no idea what was wrong with me and I felt so stupid. But basically I have all this stuff going on and I can’t really share it with her and I can’t e-mail her things I want her opinion on because she does not have internet and damn it I want my mom!

That is all.

From Bad to Worse

So if yesterday I thought I was having wedding hiccups, now I realize it was sorely mistaken.

Last night on a whim I decided to swing by my parent’s house, I wanted to drop something off to my brother and I needed to get out of the house.

I sat and talked to my dad for awhile (my mom is currently in Florida taking care of her parents) and then I went to see my brother.

And that’s when he told me that my parents are bringing my grandparents to live with them. When I asked my dad about it he said he thought I knew.

My Dad’s dad already lives with my parents and my step grandfather lives a mile down the road in an assisted living facility.

So now my 3 surviving grandparents are going to all live in a house with my parents, two brothers, and the dog.

To make matters worse my mom’s Dad has Parkinson’s, Dementia, and Alzheimer’s, he also just had knee surgery and can’t walk.

My grandmother is overbearing, hardheaded, and suffering for anxiety. She has also lost her ability to speak English and has reverted back to her native Spanish.

Because my grandfather cannot walk, my parents are giving up their bedroom to them and moving into my mom’s office.

My parents are now responsible for 4 older persons, 2 teens (one of which is going to college), and they are paying for my wedding.

I feel terrible.

And as hard as I try not to be, I’m being a bit selfish. I wanted to get ready for my wedding in my parents bedroom. It’s the only place all my attendants, my mom, and my photographer can fit. It’s also the only time I can be with my dog on my wedding day and it has a picture of my parents on their wedding day on the wall. Now that room is going to have my grandfather’s hospital bed in it so I need to find a place to get ready. All those people don’t fit in my bedroom.

I was also really upset that my grandparents would not be able to come to the wedding from Florida, and I thought that maybe the one good thing about having them here is that they could come to the wedding. Well my dad squashed that dream. He says there is no way they will be able to come in the condition they are in now. And that some family member will have to stay with them and watch them on the day of the wedding.

Now I’m thinking this wedding may be a mistake, the timing is off; I should just marry Russ at the courthouse. But the contracts are signed and the dresses are ordered and there is no going back.

And so last night I cried myself to sleep in Russ’s arms because nothing ever goes as planned, my grandparents are withering, the rest of my family members won’t step up to the plate and it makes me sad.

Wedding Hiccup’s

I have a friend who owns  a salon and I was planning on having my hair and makeup done there until yesterday when I e-mailed her and I found out that she sold it, and now I have to start thinking about hair and make up. I looked at Red Door Spa and they are $360 for the hair/make up trial and the day of. For a girl who gets a $15 hair cut at Hair Cuttery, I think $360 is a bit much.

Am I crazy to think that?  Does anyone know a good place in Northern Virginia for wedding hair/makeup?

Also I just got my flower proposal and its a few hundred dollars shy of 3k. I think that’s exorbitant. Especially when the centerpiece picture I sent her was priced at $42.95 at another florist and she quoted me $75 for the same thing.

A co-worker who got married last year says she has at least 10 candelabras that I can borrow. She says they are antique white and that she will bring me one so I can practice decorating them. I hope they work out. If they do I can probably cut my proposal in half.

Wish me luck!

Epic Weekend

3 days, 18 friends, 1 cabin, and a whole lot of fun.

Things I learned…

  • Some awesome hoola-hoop tricks.
  • Croissant o’clock is around 8:30am and again at 2:00pm
  • No matter how much you try to start breakfast early, making bacon wakes everyone up.
  • It takes 2 hours to make 3 packs of bacon, a huge stack of waffles, hash browns and 2 dozen eggs.
  • Never leave 4 teenage boys to make pizza, it ALWAYS burns.
  • I can swim across the river up stream.
  • Always put sunscreen on your legs when planning to tube down river for hours.
  • I should NEVER play Scatergories, it only ends in fights and tears.
  • Bring more allergy medicine.
  • I can shoot a target (beer can) at 50 yards with an M1 Garand (the gun that won WWII)
  • The best hot dogs come after hours of tubing down river and bar-b-qed on shore with a tiny Weber grill.
  • Skinny dipping in broad daylight with 9 women is awesome.

We had no access to cell phones, internet, or cable television. Instead we watched movies on a projection screen in the back yard for entertainment. we also made bon fires,  climbed trees,  jumped off rocks into the river,  and rode ATV’s.

I can’t wait for the next trip!

I’m Hungry for more!

First of all I am in love with my new Kindle.

And this weekend I did almost nothing except read.

At the suggestion of a friend I started reading The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins and then when I finished that I read Catching Fire, the second book in the series.

In August the last book in the trilogy, Mockingjay, will come out.

The best part is they already have a movie in the works and some are calling it the next Twilight.

So if you like young adult fiction i highly recommend The Hunger Games Trilogy.

Gone Camp’n

We are off to the cabin!

On Wednesday I went shopping at Costco and managed to buy a ton a food.

Then I went home and turned over 10lbs of ground beef into 40 burger patties. I added Lipton onion mix, pepper, and Worcestershire sauce and I can’t wait to fire up the grill.

We have over 30 jumbo hot dogs, and 24 chicken breasts that I’m going to marinate in Sweet Baby Ray’s Bar-B-Q sauce.

I bought meatballs for pasta one night and we have a bunch of breakfast stuffs. The best part about breakfast at the cabin is fresh eggs from our Russian neighbor and apparently he makes fresh goat cheese too.

I have a few river tubes that I plan to spend a large amount of town in. I have a stack of books I plan to read on the porch swing. And there will be a projector for movies under the start by the camp fire.

Should be EPIC!
